Bartramia potosica Montagne

Family: Bartramiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Bartramia potosica is similar to B. ithyphylla with very long leaves that have a sheathing base. The leaves of B. potosica are very fragile though and many are broken about midleaf. In addition, on some stems the leaves stand stiffly erect. An under-rated and useful character for differentiating B. potosica from B. ithyphylla is the costa. On cross-section, the abaxial costal stereid band of B. potosica is much larger and broader (4-6 cells deep) than that of B. ithyphylla (2-4 cells deep). The cells are prorate with high papillae. We found B. potosica at upper elevation on rocks along a cliff above a stream. larger and broader.
