Cannabis sativa is an herb with distinctive, palmately compound leaves with serrate leaflets. Gland-headed hairs contain tetrahydrocannabinol. The flowers are unisexual and inconspicuous. The fruit is an achene. Originally from Asia, Cannabis sativa is now widely distributed and considered a noxious weed by several states. It occurs both in cultivation and as sporadic individual plants within the lower to middle elevations of the Gila.
