Synonyms:
Only unaccepted varieties

Dicranella varia is smaller than the genus Dicranum and lacks the inflated, orange alar cells of that genus. The leaves are 1-stratose and at least partly recurved. Only the apex is toothed. Dicranella varia is found along streambanks or similarly moist areas.
