Encalypta alpina Smith

Family: Encalyptaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Encalypta alpina is easy to recognize to the genus by virtue of the characteristic light brown and long rostrate calyptra that covers the entire sporophyte. This Encalypta species is recognized by the short red hairpoint, fringed calyptra (though not as obvious as in E. vulgaris), and the lack of a peristome. Only known from a collection in Taos County.
