Grimmia crinitoleucophaea Cardot

Family: Grimmiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
There is considerable taxonomic confusion regarding G. crinitoleucophaea Cardot, which is accepted by Hastings & Greven as valid in FNA. In her book The Genus Grimmia Hedw. Eva Maier, however, considers G. crinitoleucophaea Cardot to be a synonym of the accepted name Grimmia tergestina Bruch & Schimper.

Grimmia crinitoleucophaea has awned leaves that are 2 stratose above the base. The margins are incurved making the leaf concave. The seta is attached eccenctrically to the base of the immersed capsule which has a few large stomata at its base. The annulus is revoluble (detachable) and obvious, reminiscent of the annulus of Funaria hygrometrica. The operculum is long pointed. The plants are dioicous.
