Orthotrichum anomalum Hedwig

Family: Orthotrichaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Orthotrichum anomalum has sporophytes that are exerted/emergent. The calyptra is 3/4 the length of the capsule. The calyptra is ribbed and the ribs have hairs on them. The leaves are lanceolate with quadrate, papillose cells distally and rectangular cells on the alae. The distal leaf is one cell thick. Orthotrichum anomalum is found on dry streamside rocks. Thanks to Ricardo Garilleti for identifying this moss for us!
