Orthotrichum pallens Bruch ex Brid.

Family: Orthotrichaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Only infraspecific taxa

Orthotrichum pallens has acute, awnless leaves without obvious gemmae. The stomata might appear superficial and lead to an error when keying. They are actually immersed with subsidiary cells that do not project far if at all over the stomata, and therefore may appear superficial. The distal lamina is 1-stratose. Seville Flowers found this specimen on dry rocks in shade.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp, and Dina Clark for permitting us to photograph this specimen.
