Penstemon palmeri grows up to 4-6 feet tall. It is a several-stemmed perennial that is quite showy. The secund
inflorescences are composed of many white to pinkish or light pink-purple flowers with red guidelines. The flowers balloon out widely from the
narrow calyx. The stem is perfoliate, seeming to push right through the center of leaves joined around it. The leaves are
serrate. The staminode is exserted and bearded. Penstemon palmeri is currently found in localized areas in town where it was probably
spread years ago as seed after streets were bulldozed into place.
