Plagiobryoides vinosula (Cardot) J.R. Spence

Family: Bryaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Brachymenium vinosulum Cardot

Plagiobryoides vinosula looks much like it belongs in the genus Pohlia. The best hint that it is not a Pohlia is the presence of more rhomboidal mid-laminal and distal cells that are not as thin or elongate as is usual in Pohlia. Most members of both these genera have a poorly defined or absent limbidia and long rectangular basal cells. Within New Mexico in Plagiobryoides, the acute apex and lack of a well-defined limbidium identifies this species.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp, & Dina Clark for loaning us these specimens for photography.
