Ptychomitrium serratum Bruch & Schimp.

Family: Ptychomitriaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
None

Ptychomitrium serratum, like P. sinense is an arid lower elevation acrocarpous moss. The lanceolate leaves have cells that are not papillose, bulging or prorate. The cells are smooth and quadrate. The base is not sheathing. The most striking features of both of the species are the curled/circinate appearance when dry and the multiple bistratose streaks on the lamina. These streaks appear as dark green markings against a lighter green background. The main difference between the two species is that the leaf margin of Ptychomitrium serratum is strongly toothed while the margin of P. sinense is entire.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp & Dina Clark for permitting us to photograph this specimen.
