Ptychostomum cyclophyllum is unusual among the Bryaceae in that it has leaves that are round or nearly
round in shape that are strongly shrunken and contorted when dry. Some specimens and younger leaves may just be broadly ovate, but never acutely pointed at the apex. There is a limbidium easily visible.
