Quercus gambelii is found in middle to upper elevation in the Gila National Forest. The leaves
are large and symetrically lobed. Quercus gambelli can be a shrub where conditions do not permit more robust growth,
or can be a large tree with gnarled trunk several feet in diameter in canyon bottoms or above the snow line. Quercus gambelii is responsible for some beautiful yellow colors in the autumn.
