Sciuro-hypnum reflexum (Starke) Ignatov & Huttunen

Family: Brachytheciaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Hypnum reflexum Starke

Sciuro-hypnum reflexum is a small to medium sized moss with obviously different stem and branch leaves. The more widely-spaced stem leaves are ovate-triangular in shape while the more densely packed branch leaves are narrow lanceolate. The alar cells are square shaped and quite different from the more rectangular cells next to the costa. In addition, the stem leaves are markedly decurrent compared to the branch leaves. The costa is variable, with some disappearing into the leaf apex, while in other leaves the costa appears quite short. The stalk to the capsule (seta) is red-brown and rough. This moss is found at middle to upper elevation in mixed conifer forest on wood.
