Solenostoma rubrum is easy to identify by virtue of the characteristic ruby-red to red-purple color of the leaf bases and the perianth. The sterile stems are light green in color and the leaves are nearly orbicular. The margin of the leaves has a thick-walled layer of slightly larger and elongate cells compared to the central laminal cells. Solenostoma rubrum is found on moist soil.
