Symphyotrichum subulatum is a wet habitat erect herb with many small inflorescences which are white to pale lavender. The pappus is as long or longer than the rays. The herbage is glabrous. It is an annual, although the stout taproot can be deceiving. The phyllaries gradually get longer (graduated.)
