Taxiphyllum taxirameum (Mitt.) M. Fleisch.

Family: Hypnaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Stereodon taxirameus Mitt.
Isopterygium taxirameum (Mitt.) Jaeger

Taxiphyllum taxirameum is similar to Taxiphyllum deplanatum but is rather easily differentiated from it with just a hand lens. The leaves of Taxiphyllum taxirameum are much less crowded together on the stem compared to Taxiphyllum deplanatum. There are microscopic differences as well (i.e., the alar zone) but these are much less conspicuous. The leaves of T. taxirameum aren't overlapping and most of them sit at a right angle to the stem. The leaves of T. deplanatum usually are overlapping and point more upwards.
