Tortula hoppeana (Schultz) Ochyra

Family: Pottiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Desmatodon latifolius (Hedwig) Bridel
Trichostomum hoppeanum Schultz
Tortula eurphylla R.H. Zander

Tortula hoppeana has a mucro or apiculus but no hairpoint. It does not have the thickened marginal cells like T. muralis or a swollen adaxial pad of cells like T. atrovirens. It does have exserted capsules and quite a narrow costa that is only 2 or 3 cells wide. The laminal papillae are frequently bifid.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp, and Dina Clark for loaning us this specimen for photography.
