Tortula nevadensis (Cardot & Thér.) R.H. Zander

Family: Pottiaceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Pottia nevadesis Cardot & Thér.

Tortula nevadensis has exserted capsules and unbordered but awned leaves. The leaf cells are smooth (lacking papillae) and the leaf margins are plane. Some leaves may be toothed near the apex. Interestingly, even though the operculum is long rostrate, there is no peristome.

Many thanks to the University of Colorado Herbarium (COLO), Erin Tripp, and Dina Clark for permitting us to photograph this specimen.
