Warnstorfia fluitans can be found submerged or nearly submerged in fens, but thus far has only been found at Valles Caldera in New Mexico. It is a pleurocarp that bears a close resemblance to Leptodictyum riparium, but the stems of W. fluitans are much shorter with much shorter leaves that can be markedly falcate secund.
