Zygodon domingensis Thér.
Zygodon campylophyllus is a fairly large moss for the genus, reddish brown below and
greenish towards the stem tips. The dry leaves are appressed to the stem, but they become very
regularly squarrose recurved when wet, looking like a moss centipede. There are no brood bodies
as one would find with Zygodon viridissimus. The apex is irregularly toothed or entire.
Zygodon campylophyllus has just recently been found in New Mexico and is a new North
American record (north of Mexico).
